An allochrome periodic acid-methenamine silver stain for demonstrating mycobacteria in tissue sections.

چکیده

Nyka9) employed the Gomori-Grocott's chromic acid-methenamine silver method for demonstrating tubercle bacilli in tissue sections after sublimate fixative with added hydrogen peroxide or periodic acid. He described that this procedure could demonstrate mycobacteria that had lost their acidfastness by the usual carbol fuchsin stain. Harada5) also employed the periodic acid-methenamine silver stain for demonstrating mycobacteria including leprosy bacilli in tissue sections after formalin fixation. After many trials, the author recommended the following modification of the periodic acid-methenamine silver stain with added contract trichrome stain of background tissues for selective identification of mycobacteria and pathological changes.

The use of non-deparaffinized tissue sections for staining leprosy bacilli.

Reduced acid-fast staining of leprosy bacilli occurs during the dewaxing of paraffin sections by xylene and alcohols; the older and more decrepit bacilli being especially affected. By the use of non-deparaffinized sections, the leprosy bacilli which could not be stained with the usual carbol fuchsin are strongly stained. Moreover, non-deparafinized sections can be used for the periodic acid-car...

Histopathological evaluation of ocular microsporidiosis by different stains

BACKGROUND There is limited data on comparing stains in the detection of microsporidia in corneal biopsies. Hence we wanted to evaluate various stains for their ability to detect microsporidia in corneal tissue sections. METHODS Four cases diagnosed with microsporidiosis on Hematoxylin and Eosin and Periodic Acid Schiff's stained sections of the corneal button between January 2002 and Decembe...
